I am a graduate student at Portland State University on my first research expedition to Antarctica. I am stationed at McMurdo station on Ross Island. Our research is focused on examining how temperature affects biological processes using the cold adapted Antarctic fish as our model organisms. I will be updating my blog as often as possible with stories and pictures of both the science and the non-science activities that we are involved in.

Well, I didn't do much today besides work on my thesis. So I decided to post a cool video of the two seals breathing and resting in the dive hut. They have been using the hole as a breathing hole for a while now. Anyway, you can see and hear the two of them breathing at different times. Near the end of the video, the seal on the left will dive back down to look for some more food while the seal on the right stays in the hole to breathe some more. It was pretty cool to see them just hanging out there, and I have never seen more than one seal in a hole like this so that was really exciting for me! Hope you enjoy.
