BARBIE STRIKES FIRST!!! I'll explain what that means in a bit but I'll need to start at the beginning of the day. Today was a pretty amazing day! We started out with snowmobile training. We learned a lot about troubleshooting if won't start, how to replace spark plugs, what bolts to check every morning and where to clean out snow when it accumulates.
After snowmobile training, it was time to go FISHING!!!! We don't have our Pisten Bully yet so we couldn't drive out to some of our more remote fishing sites. However, we were able to walk to an ice diving shelter near town and fish out of the diving hole. Brad cleared out some of the ice that had built up in the hole and we dropped our lines in. This year, I CAUGHT THE FIRST FISH OF THE SEASON! And I was using the Barbie children's fishing pole which is not the most ideal for ice fishing, however, she has done great for us in the past. I was so excited! We all ended up catching fish and walked away with five.
The fish we caught today are all called by their scientific names, Trematomus bernacchii. Not only do we get to go fishing for our job, but we get to fish for some pretty incredible fish. And if that wasn't enough, we are fishing in Antarctica! This was the view out of our fishing hut.
It was another amazing day in Antarctica!
